The Friends of Swanage Hospital have a broad remit to promote the work of the hospital and the well-being of its patients and staff.  We do this by membership subscription, fund-raising, legacies and donations.  This support has helped to maintain the continuing development of the hospital.

We give thousands of pounds each year to the hospital, not only to make sure the building and equipment are fit for purpose but also to support our wonderful staff to go on training courses and attend conferences.

When the hospital was threatened with closure we came up with a Statement of Purpose:

Swanage Community Hospital offers care of exceptional quality in a safe environment. The long tradition of healing and care is highly valued by local people, and the hospital is considered to be part of the social fabric of the community. Each patient is treated as an individual with respect and dignity by friendly and professional staff. This small local hospital is vibrant, innovative and forward-thinking, offering a wide range of services through its many partnerships across health and social care. It provides: 15 inpatient beds, a minor injuries unit, out-patient clinics, day surgery, x-ray and ultrasound and physiotherapy

If you live in Purbeck and have to see a consultant, have an x-ray, a scan or an investigative procedure ask your GP for an appointment at Swanage hospital.  Don’t forget our Minor Injuries Unit is open 9am to 6pm (last appointment 5:30pm) every day of the year.  It is so, so important that we keep using the hospital and show our appreciation for what it provides.

Our members contribute annual subscriptions and a small committee meet quarterly with Matron to discuss the needs of the hospital and agree expenditure and events.

Please do join us in this exciting and very worthwhile work!
